1971 Porsche 914 1.7L – After a bunch of looking I bought this project car for my son but he’s changed direction (wants a mustang) so its up for sale. We looked at quite a few 914s before buying this one and this has a ton going for it but will also need quite a bit of work and is a project. The car has a clean California Title and I was told it was on Non-Op so no back DMV fees (pic of title attached). This car also doesn’t require a smog test for registration. I’ve been misled with car purchases before and I want the buyer informed so please ask all and any questions. Make note – this car is being sold as-is with NO guarantees etc. This car does not run or drive and will need to be towed. PLEASE look over all pictures closely and additional pictures as requested.

Electrical – pretty much everything works including the radio, pop up lights – high/low beams, turn signals, brake lights and the dash/interior lights. Original Hella lenses. Engine cranks over smoothly and it did cough a bit for us but won’t fire up completely or stay running. Cigarette lighter doesn’t work. Ignition has been replaced and works great – comes with two ignition keys and a Red key that fits the trunk. The Red key also fits a set of driver/passenger door pulls and a hood latch – these will need to be installed but are included. The car currently has other door pulls and a hood latch installed but I don’t have the key.

Engine/Drivetrain – complete and cranking. Will likely need the fuel injection redone or upgraded to carburetors. Clutch and throttle pedal feel like they should. Not sure on status of transmission since we haven’t driven it. The shifting needs new bushings and is very sloppy. I was told this is why it was parked years back – not sure how many years though.

Steering/Brakes – We ground towed the car home a short distance. The steering felt great – car tracked straight and was responsive at slow speeds. The brakes barely worked and the pedal has slight resistance but the car will surely need a complete brake rebuild. Nice 2 liter Porsche wheels with old tires, wheel locks and key.

Body – Has been a few colors but blue with black interior originally. All VIN #s match. Has everything other than a front bumper and the car did come with factory fog lights originally as the switch is in the dash but the lights are missing. I assume the front bumper was removed following whatever minor accident occurred on passenger front (picture included). The car has all its original glass in great condition (other than windshield which also has a chip/crack in it). The sides of the car are straight and the doors shut really well. The hood and truck open and close but could use some adjustment. The side windows and mechanisms are all intact but they are stiff to roll up/down – probably just need to be lubricated. There is some rust but not much compared to other cars we looked over. Nothing in the door jams or around the windshield. On the outside just a couple of dime size holes in the passenger door, the battery tray is original and falling apart but no other visible rust in the engine compartment. The passenger jack point has the worst rust through but not a huge hole. A little bit on the driver jack point as well. Rest of the floorboards look fine. The trunk and the front trunk ‘hell hole’ where the spare sits don’t have any rust through. The T top is in great condition with all 4 latches and works great. Rear bumper has surface rust all over it. Happy to send more pictures to serious buyers.

Overall this is a solid and pretty complete project car. Will need brakes done, shifting bushings then whatever to get it running right to get back on the road. The rust the car has does not appear structural at all . Battery and brand new car cover included. LOW starting bid. Hit me up with any questions.
